The Emergency Food joke is the game’s oldest running gag — it dates to the very first conversation in Mondstadt — which is why it dominates this list. The trick to keeping it fresh is the modifier: a version, a job title, a courtroom denial. Combine any two ideas here and the result is a nickname nobody in your co-op session has worn before; a frame from the name decorator makes it look official.

Why Funny Names Spread Faster in Genshin
Co-op in Genshin is short and social: strangers see your nickname for a few minutes in a domain, and a joke name is the one thing guaranteed to be screenshotted. Because nicknames are free and unlimited to change — the steps are in how to change your name in Genshin Impact — many players rotate a new gag name every patch. Pair the nickname with a matching signature (“day 1 player, still no crit circlet”) for the full effect, or go the opposite way with the elegant styles in best Genshin Impact names with symbols when you want your profile taken seriously.
Keeping a Joke Name Within the Rules
HoYoverse filters offensive nicknames and can force a rename, so keep jokes about the game, not about other players. Avoid impersonating official accounts or NPCs in a misleading way, and skip characters’ names combined with anything rude. Everything in this article is clean fandom humour. For more remix material across all games, the random nickname generator is a reliable joke machine, and the homepage links the rest of our naming tools.
Rotating Gag Names: The Patch-Day Tradition
Because renaming is free and unlimited, veteran players treat the nickname like a status message that changes with the game’s calendar: a banner countdown during saving season (“Day37NoWishes”), a victory lap after winning the 50/50 (“C2Secured”), a funeral notice after losing it (“QiqiAgainWhy”). Event names work the same way — Lantern Rite brings lantern jokes, summer events bring beach names, and every new region launches a wave of names mispronouncing its hardest location. Rotating keeps your profile feeling alive to friends who see it daily, and it costs nothing but ten seconds in the menu. Keep a notes app list of your best retired names; the great ones deserve a comeback next year.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can two Genshin players have the same nickname?
Yes. Nicknames are not unique in Genshin Impact — your UID is the unique identifier — so any name here can be copied exactly, with no availability check needed.
Does the “not taken” idea apply to Genshin at all?
Only loosely. Since names can repeat freely, “not taken” in this article means combinations original enough that you are unlikely to meet them twice, not names reserved for you.
How often can I change my Genshin nickname?
As often as you like, free of charge, from the Paimon menu. Many players change nicknames with every patch or event.
Will a joke nickname get me banned?
No, clean humour is fine. Only offensive, impersonating or abusive nicknames risk a forced rename by HoYoverse.
