The best Clash of Clans player names are short, memorable and easy for clanmates to read in war chat — think strong single words, dark themes and clean spelling. Clash of Clans only allows plain text names, so Supercell does not let you add symbols, fancy fonts or special characters, which means the power has to come from the words themselves. Browse the lists below, test your favourite in the game’s rename screen, and use a username generator if you want fresh variations on any idea.
War and Intimidating Player Names

How to Pick a Name That Is Not Taken
No list can guarantee a name is free, because millions of players share the same game and names change every day. We have not live-checked these names as available, so always test your pick in the rename screen first. If your first choice is taken, add a meaningful word instead of random numbers — swap King for Lord, add your Town Hall theme, combine two short words, or change the spelling slightly while keeping it readable. You can brainstorm combinations on the Stylish Nickname Maker homepage and then read our companion guide to best Clash of Clans clan names if your whole clan wants a matching theme.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use symbols in a Clash of Clans player name?
No. Clash of Clans player names are plain text only, and Supercell does not allow symbols, fancy fonts or special Unicode characters in them. Choose strong words and clean spelling instead.
How do I check if a Clash of Clans name is taken?
Type the name into the game’s rename screen and see if the game accepts it. That in-game check is the only reliable test, since no website can live-check Supercell’s database.
What makes a good Clash of Clans name?
A good name is short, easy to read in war chat, and matches your play style — war, farming or pushing. Avoid long number strings, which look rushed and are hard for clanmates to remember.
Can I change my Clash of Clans name later?
Yes. The first name change is free and later changes cost gems, so pick carefully. Our step-by-step guide explains the full process before you spend anything.
